TD Canada Trust Young Jazz Showcase
The TD Canada Trust Young Jazz Showcase has been a highlight of the Festival since 2002. Each year we choose five or six of the finest high school jazz musicians from across Canada. They come to Port Hope for a few days of intensive work with a professional mentor, and perform a set on the main stage at the Festival on Saturday and Sunday afternoons. Audiences are amazed each year at the individual talents, and the group cohesiveness, of these musicians. The Young Jazz Showcase proves that the future of jazz in Canada is bright indeed! Members of the Young Jazz Showcase have gone on to some of the finest college, university and conservatory programs, and are already being heard on stages and in clubs across the continent. To give just one example, saxophonist Eli Bennett, who performed as part of the Young Jazz Showcase for three years, received the CBC Galaxie Rising Star Award at the 2009 National Jazz Awards.
